Our Stories

Share it on Social:

For LunaYou, empowering women is one of the core components of our platform. We believe the arts are uniquely able to help capture and share the stories of the women participating in LunaYou. We believe that by sharing your story you quickly realize that you are not alone in the way you feel. We believe stories build empathy, and allow us to truly get a glimpse of someone’s lived experience.

We will be continuously posting more stories, portraits, and videos over the next few weeks. Learn more about how LunaYou is empowering women, building social support, and providing access to actionable wellbeing metrics. Please follow us on Facebook for the latest.

“My name is Yolanda, I’m from Providence, RI – born and raised. I’m 44 years old and I am 36 weeks pregnant. Obviously, when you are pregnant it’s nice to have somebody to talk to, especially in my situation which is a little different. I’m older, and pregnant, by myself, this is my eighth child, my oldest is 27 and I have a 10 year old at home.”

“At first my older children didn’t really accept it, no one was excited about my pregnancy, I felt a lot of shame. I found the LunaYou program, and started having regular calls with my Wellbeing Coach. It’s been good to talk to someone about my pregnancy who didn’t judge me, I no longer had to feel ashamed. I’m just me and I can live my life how I want to live it. “

“There’s a lot of stuff going on right now, but as a Black woman and a mother, I have a wealth of information to say to other Black mothers. One thing I know — whatever you have to go through, you’re going to get through it, because you’re strong, and you’re strong for a reason, you are the mother of civilization. You’ve got a lot of weight on your shoulders, and when much is given, much is required.”
